Pectasol C is a modified citrus pectin that has been extensively researched. It has the ability to block harmful galectin–3 (Gal-3) activities associated with cardiovascular health, chronic inflammation and fibrosis, cancer proliferation and metastases, and organ and tissue damage due to acute injury.

Research shows that Gal-3 (1) plays a detrimental role in prion infections of the central nervous system (CNS) and contributes to full-blown microglial activity and) blood-brain barrier (BBB) disruption via TLR4.

The Gal-3 inhibitor PectaSol-C Modified Citrus Pectin has been shown to reduce neurological impairments and BBB disruption, suggesting that it may prove beneficial to other inflammation-based neurodegenerative diseases as well.
