Pectasol C is a modified citrus pectin that has been extensively researched. It has the ability to block harmful galectin–3 (Gal-3) activities associated with cardiovascular health, chronic inflammation and fibrosis, cancer proliferation and metastases, and organ and tissue damage due to acute injury.

It has been shown to support the immune system with the activation of functional natural killer cells and safely remove heavy metals without depleting essential minerals.

GAL–3 expressed at elevated levels is:
1. Directly implicated in diseases related to inflammation and fibrosis in multiple organs and systems such as the liver, kidneys, lungs and cardiovascular system
2. Predictive marker for cardiovascular health and disease progression
3. Shown to play a critical role in tumour growth, survival, metastases and angiogenesis
4. Associated with aberrant cell signalling and suppressed immune surveillance

Galectin-3 (Gal-3), in particular, has been considered a key factor in neuronal regeneration and modulation of the inflammatory response. Research shows that Gal-3 (1) plays a detrimental role in prion infections of the central nervous system (CNS) and contributes to full-blown microglial activity and) blood-brain barrier (BBB) disruption via TLR4.

The Gal-3 inhibitor PectaSol-C Modified Citrus Pectin has been shown to reduce neurological impairments and BBB disruption, suggesting that it may prove beneficial to other inflammation-based neurodegenerative diseases as well.
